Early Wild West books and storybooks explained the tiny size of the Chihuahua by saying the animals were made thru a secret process utilized by medication men or pagan clergymen in Mexico or South America. The method was related to have concerned the mixing of little dogs and rodents. Early outlines of the dogs by Missionaries and Conquistadors traveling thru South America indicated they were utilized in worship rites or even eaten by true supporters of the Aztec faith. Many have been found buried with folks, so it’s possible they were fatally injured to join their owners in death.

Captains, pals and others who worked on board ships in the California of the middle to late 1800’s found Chihuahua dogs to be superb companions. We are just now discovering that seafarers might have visited our shores long before Columbus or the Vikings. No one actually knows the precise origin of the Chihuahua.
