Chihuahuas and Kids Don’t Mix

For this reason Chihuahuas and tiny kids are not a good mix. The Chihuahua, though he may appear feisty, is awfully fragile and can simply hurt by a small kid that doesn’t know any better. Though Chihuahuas are really smart they may be a little tricky to train particularly when it comes to housebreaking. Many owners simply paper educate them or you might employ a dog litter box as they are small enough to make this worthwhile. But being as they are smart they can learn many tricks and obedience if you take the time to coach them with positive reinforcement. Chihuahuas, or any dog basically, don’t reply well to screaming and hitting and this should not be used as a technique of coaching. The Chihuahua could be a bit loud and is also assertive even for its miniscule size.

As you can imagine a bigger dog may appear extraordinarily promising to your little Chihuahua but he is going to stand up to it with great bravery. Thus you must look after your Chihuahua from such threats whether or not the other dog is friendly. Though Chihuahuas are small and they do make good flat pets they do need some exercise. Playing with your Chihuahua and taking him for a stroll will help him remain fit and in good health. When walking your Chihuahua its best to use a harness vs a collar asserted their small wind pipes can become crushed with a collar. Just remember, if it is cold out, please dress your Chihuahua in a sweater as these dogs don’t take well to the cold. Chihuahuas are long-lived for little dogs and can live up to fifteen years with the correct care.

Since their eyes are massive care should be taken that they do not become damaged and Chihuahuas may also be susceptible to glaucoma and dryness of the eyes. Thanks to a short muzzle the Chihuahua may also be wheezy. You also have to take care with these miniscule dogs that you don’t overfeed them and you don’t feed them anything that is toxic as a tiny teeny bit of chocolate or manure or anything toxic can have extreme results.

Not to mention that a bit of overfeeding may lead to a large and unhealthy dog. The short coated dogs are simple to groom and care for and shed tiny. You must brush your Chihuahua each week or so and give him a bath to keep them smelling great. Make efforts to give your dog the acceptable vet care including annual checkups and immunizations and you’ll have a trustworthy and loving buddy for a few years to come.
